A brief hello from me, Vicki Watson, on my new website blog! Here you will find my musings about life, the universe and of course, photography.

I thought I'd get things started with a few words about my journey into photography. I’m a self taught photographer: my work is guided by instinct and an eye trained by a lot of first-hand experience. I am currently working on a PG Cert for Therapeutic Photography which I'm putting into practice throughout all my photography work. It also ties in nicely with my other job, a part-time fundraiser for youth work.

My photography journey began when I was on maternity leave to each of my three daughters. I started my own small business in 2018, and since then, to my great surprise and delight, I have been shortlisted twice for The Scottish Portrait Awards, have been exhibited nationally and locally, have made my way into the newspapers at local and national level, including The Times, and have been featured on the BBC. Currently I am working on a project - which I'll blog about in more depth - watch this space - called ‘Sea Change’; an up close and personal exploration of the transition women go through peri/menopause, and the ways it affects us physically and mentally.

Fun Facts: I am a DJ in an outfit called She-Bang Rave Unit and play at festival and club nights. I live by the sea and that makes me a fully committed dryrobe wearer who swims in cold water less than she talks about it. I have three daughters, two in their teens which makes life exciting, and I have a wee rescue doggy from Romania, who is my bestie.

I absolutely love the idea that the pictures I take for folks will be around for years, becoming part of family folklore and history, particularly family shoots, portraiture and weddings. I really enjoy event photography and love a good party behind the camera and in front of it! I also enjoy the challenge of working with clients who have new passion businesses to promote and need images for online marketing and headshots.

I'm challenged and inspired by tougher subjects, and have had the privilege to be asked to take pictures for families for whom a member has been given a terminal diagnosis, and for those who wish to have pictures of their breasts before and after breast surgery. I do a lot of photography work within the third sector as I understand it, having worked in the sector as a fundraiser for more than 20 years. It feels natural to me to combine both areas of my work. I'm also very passionate about using photography as a tool for social change. You will find me at events across the city helping document the ever changing times we live in.

Photography is not just a job but a passion of mine, as are people, which I hope shines through in my work. Please get in touch if you need my services and in the meantime, take a wee gander at my work!
